Many people have come to visit Mapletree farm and have asked that they want to farm and they need help from me.

This is a question that requires deep thinking before the answer is found. If you are inclined to any of the following then farming is not a good choice for you.

Only care about money: If you only see small-scale organic farming as a get-rich scheme, we suggest you look elsewhere. Farming is hard work, a lifestyle, a vocation, a mission larger than oneself to be dedicated to. We foster the pride a farmer can have in feeding their community, and doing it with skill and expertise.

Only care about saving the world: If you think you need to be a martyr for the cause of organic agriculture, to work long hours and always be broke to be virtuous, maybe it’s not a good fit. Farming is a lifestyle and a vocation, but it also needs to be a profitable business to be sustainable, as well as a way to provide you and your family with great quality of life. Becoming a skilled, efficient and business-savvy grower are all key components.

Don’t make the effort to apply what you learn: Farming is for doers, people who are willing to get their hands dirty, apply themselves, figure things out, get both into the big picture and the minute details. If you’re not willing to step it up and take your knowledge and skills to the next level, please don’t try farming.
